What can I expect from a Sunday morning meeting?
Don't come to Southlands expecting tightly followed traditions, strict schedules or predictable routines. Because God is the reason we gather, we never want our own scripted plans to get in the way of what He's trying to do among us. If that means adding some unplanned songs to our worship, inviting people who want prayer to the front during the middle of a service or scrapping one sermon for another at the last minute, so be it. Usually, Sunday mornings consists of some singing, some "family time" (news and announcements) and a sermon that delves into the Word of God.
We have been entirely transformed by the love of God, and are therefore expressive and exuberant in the way we demonstrate our love back to God. We may sing loudly or softly, with joyous dancing or quiet contemplation, but our worship is always directed toward Jesus, for His pleasure. You will not be forced into expressing yourself in a prescriptive or controlling way. Our times of singing are usually followed by a talk that addresses practical life and spiritual issues - relevant for those desiring to learn more about Jesus as well as those who are seasoned in their walk with God.
What should I wear?
God does not judge us according to our external appearance. We invite you to dress in a way that is comfortable and real for you. Whether that is a suit, California casual or flip-flops and beach gear, you and your family will be warmly received.
What's available for my children?
Our children are very valuable to us, and it is a high priority for us to ensure their well-being. All children are encouraged to attend worship with their families in our main gathering. After worship we dismiss them to their age-appropriate classes:
Giggle Zone for 0 to 24 months
Friends Zone 23, for 2 to 3 year olds
Friends Zone 45, for 4 to 5 year olds
Impact Zone for 6 to 12 year olds
Jr. high and high school students are encouraged to stay in with the adults.
